I am not looking at the weather forecast anymore. I don’t care. I am just going to go merrily on my way, pretending we are having normal almost-March weather and not something imported from Siberia in January. La la la, I don’t even see that red bar up there saying WINDCHILL WARNING IN EFFECT. Oh, did someone say minus 40? I’M NOT LISTENING. I’M NOT, DO YOU HEAR ME?

In other news, I woke up this morning unable to open my left eye. Like, at all. And that’s my good eye, so there was a lot of banging into stuff, because of course my glasses were in the car, and I really didn’t want to go outside and get them. Several hours later, when I could at least squint out of the massive swelling, I was informed that it appeared to be an allergic reaction. To what? Dunno. Why is only one eye allergic to the mystery substance? Dunno. Is it going to blow up like that again? Dunno. Well, that was fun. (Actually, one part was fun. The part where the receptionist was giving her standard opening spiel of, “And what is the reason for your visit to the clinic today?” while looking at the desk, and then looked up before I could answer and said, “WHOA.” Um, yeah. The Quasimodo face, that would be what I am doing here.)

I really have to go to bed now. But later I will share with you my other big story of the week, which ended with me washing blood off surfaces in three different rooms and thinking, “Man, if anyone ever sprays luminol around in here, I am so dead.”

… Sport followed up the sweetness of Friday by being an absolute PILL at the grandparents’ today. Rude, sulky, disrespectful, didn’t like this, didn’t like that, didn’t want lunch, then he did, then wouldn’t eat what Grandma made… I was ready to throttle him.  I was planning on telling them today about the future arrival of Little Brother. Needless to say, I abandoned that plan and we fled as soon as possible.

It’s been  a long week, we’re both sick, and I’m exhausted. So when we got home tonight, I went to lie down for a bit before making supper. As I lay there I realized I could hear an awful lot of running water and clattering in the bathroom. I debated getting up to go and see what was going on, but I just didn’t have the energy, and I figured well, it’s just water. How bad can it be?

Ten minutes later Sport came into my room. “Mom. Mom, I have a surprise for you! You have to come and see.” He took my hand and pulled me into the bathroom. I was almost scared to look.

The surprise?

He had cleaned the bathroom. Scrubbed the sink and toilet, cleaned the mirror, and washed the floor. (I have a feeling the floor was “washed” mainly due to the amount of spillage during the cleaning process.)

All I could come up with, while trying not to cry, was “You’re the best kid ever.”

What I need

Bored? Looking for random amusement? Try googling your first name followed by the word “needs”.

According to Google, I need…

… suggestions. (Go for it.)

… help. (Duh.)

… a special-needs cat. (Isn’t that redundant?)

… a drummer. (Ah, no musicians need apply, actually.)

… your clothes, shoes, bags!!! (Yes, there were that many exclamation marks in the original.)

… volunteers.  (Particularly volunteer maids, cooks, and babysitters.)

… a ride for one to San Ramon. (I also know the way to San Jose.)

… vendors. (Depends what they are vending.)

… to slim down her bod! (Sad but true.)

… local consent.  (I… don’t know what that means.)

Thanks to Habesha Child for the fun!

Here’s today’s while-driving-to-school-at-7-am-question:

“Mom. Why some countries have everything they need, and other countries don’t?”
“Um… like what sorts of things?”
“Like food, and clean water, and medicine.”

For Pete’s sake, I can’t explain this one at the best of times, never mind at 7 am. Can we please go back to asking why that yellow bird is so tall, and where the snow goes after it melts?

Seriously. The man learned how to say “You are team #1″ in sign language, on the assumption that the mom & son team would finish first on at least one leg of the race. Phil, you rock.

Also, who knew that transporting cheese could be so entertaining? For the viewers, that is, not the participants.

We had our usual Saturday morning breakfast, with a little twist…

And yes, he did add syrup to the icing and sugar.

Later we spent some time experimenting with the concepts of density and flotation.

The objects on the left floated, and the ones on the right didn’t, in case you couldn’t figure that out for yourself.

Out of necessity, I spent a lot of time rearranging the basement. Mostly due to the delivery of this…

Which is nine kinds of awesome, but also really, really big.

And last but not least, I worked on immigration paperwork for about four hours. And then apparently I left it sitting in the ONLY good sunbeam in the house.

I came across this clip from the Ellen show again today … I had seen it before, but OH MY GOD it is still the funniest thing ever.

Happy ridiculous day sponsored by florists, chocolatiers, and Hallmark.

I will admit that I like my present this year.

To my mental list of “Things not to eat while watching CSI”, I will now add “tomato clam pasta.”
